Learning to go at your own pace and be intentional in a fast-paced world

In a world that is constantly demanding us to do more, be more, and achieve more, it can be easy to feel overwhelmed and inadequate. We are bombarded with messages that tell us we need to do better, be better, work harder, and push ourselves. But what if I told you that your superpower is actually going at your own pace in life?

Going at your own pace is powerful and allows you to stay true to yourself and your own unique journey. It means taking the time to listen to your body, mind, and soul and honouring what they need in that moment. It means recognising that not everyone's path in life is the same. I’m not saying that this is easy, far from it, It's hard to create your own pace in life and go at your own speed. But it's essential for your health and wellness to maintain control at the speed in which you live.

When you go at your own pace, you are able to cultivate a sense of inner peace and contentment. You are less likely to experience burnout or feelings of anxiety and overwhelm because you are giving yourself the time and space to rest and recharge when need. You are able to savour the journey and enjoy the moments of life.

Going at your own pace also allows you to stay authentic and true to yourself. You are not trying to keep up with anyone other than yourself. You are following your own intuition and inner guidance. Trusting that the path you are on is right for you.

I made a conscious decision a few years ago to alter the way in which I was living. My inflamed thyroid at the time helped me make the decision, but the behaviours are all still true today after recovering. Here are a few of the ways in which I started to go about living more intentionally and at MY pace?

  1. Self care is essential. Whatever is your thing for relaxation and rejuvenation (nature, yoga, walks, art, reading, massage, travel) do more of it. Schedule it in and make time for it.

  2. Simplify. Declutter anything that doesn't serve you. In your environment, life, friendships, and routines, focus on the things/people that do matter in your life.

  3. Boundaries. Say no to things that aren't worth your energy or aren't doing you any good. Also, set boundaries around your time. Time is a precious commodity. It's one of life’s real luxurious that we do not have enough of.

  4. Take time to disconnect. Disconnect from whatever you feel you need space from for a while. For example, I take regular social media breaks, and this has been a game changer for me.

  5. Gratitude. Celebrate the simple things in life because they are what really matter. Celebrate all your wins and all you have.

  6. Mindfulness. Be present in the here and now. Focusing on what is in front of you.

  7. Do not compare. The only person you should compare yourself to is yourself. You are on your own journey. How have you grown and changed since yesterday, last week, last month, last year, 5 years ago?

So the next time you feel pressured to speed up, remember that going at your own pace is your superpower. Embrace it, own it, and watch as your life begins to unfold in ways you never thought possible. You are exactly where you need to be, and there is no rush to get to the finish line. Trust in the process and enjoy the journey.
