Luteal phase chocolate bark
This melted dark chocolate bark is a wonderful, nutritious treat at any time. But especially during our luteal phase (typically days 15–28 of a 28-day cycle), when we just NEED something to satisfy cravings but are conscious of our bodies' needs during this phase.
The melted dark chocolate can be topped with any mixture of nuts (Brazil nuts, almonds, walnuts are especially nutritious at this stage) and seeds (pumpkin seeds, sunflower, chia), as well as dried fruit such as cherries, goji berries or blueberries, rose petals or bee pollen.
These are a nutrient-dense treat for several reasons:
Magnesium - Both dark chocolate and nuts are good sources of magnesium, which may help with supporting PMS symptoms.
Iron - Dark chocolate contains iron, which is important for replenishing levels that may drop during menstruation.
Healthy Fats - Nuts provide healthy fats that can promote satiety and support blood sugar levels, therefore helping to manage cravings.
Antioxidants - Dark chocolate is rich in flavonoids, which may help reduce inflammation and oxidative stress.
Mood Enhancement - We all love a little chocolate.
You don’t even really need a recipe, just simply melt a large bar of chocolate bain marie style (a glass bowl over a pan of water on the hob). Keep an eye on the chocolate while melting; you don’t want any water to get in there or for the chocolate to burn. Then place little dollops of the chocolate onto a baking tray covered in parchment paper. Add whatever nutritious toppings you like. Place in the fridge to set.
